Our greenhouse we (the Friends of the Lost Pines State Parks) purchased and put together is being stocked with the equipment they will need to start plants and seedlings.

From Brent Leisure, Texas State Parks Director:
"After a thorough search, I am pleased to announce Todd McClanahan as the newest member to our management team. Todd will immediately begin the transition from his current position as Superintendent of the Bastrop / Buescher State Park Complex to the director of our central Texas parks, region 3."

Update on our Membership Meeting February 16, 2012

Update on spending for the recovery efforts at Bastrop State Park by the Friends of the Lost Pines State Parks:
$ 45,000 for erosion control
$ 10,000 for tree removal from trails and roads, above TPWD contract
$ 2,000 for replacement trail markers that were burned in the fire
$ 6,600 for Greenhouse for starting seedlings and experimentation
$ 1,000 for Hard Hats and Buckets for Volunteers with Houston Toad Habitat
For new expenditures (not fire related and out of our regular funds)
$ 150 for Spring Break Camp
$ 2,300 to replace broken slide at Buescher State Park
$ 3,000 to start remodeling Swimming Pool for Concession Stand (to be owned and run by Friends Group)

Volunteer to Restore Bastrop State Park


Volunteers will be able to participate in at least two projects: spreading mulch around Houston toad ponds and installing straw logs or wattles on hillsides. Both of these projects are important steps in the land’s recovery.

The erosion control workdays will take place on the following Saturdays:  Dec. 10, Jan. 14, Jan. 28 and Feb. 11 from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. Reservations are required by 5 p.m. on the Friday before the workday. Contact Katie Raney at 512-718-0211 or by email at katie.raney@tpwd.state.tx.us.

Mission Statement

The mission of Friends is to assist Parks staff in the management and conservation of the natural and cultural resources of the Parks for the use and enjoyment of present and future generations. The mission of Friends is to be accomplished by enlisting and coordinating the involvement of citizens and organizations (Volunteers) wishing to assist the Parks. Friends' support may include providing information about the Parks and their resources to the public, assisting and educating visitors to the Parks, fund-raising to support special projects or general operations for the Parks, and, other activities which contribute to the care and conservation of the Parks.
