Damage done to Bastrop State Park, Park Road 1A in flooding January 25, 2012 as we received over 5 inches of rain in a seven hour period. This points out the erosion problems we are raising funds for and the need for a lot more. Photographs provided by the Office of Emergency Management, Bastrop County.

Updates will be provided as soon as we get them on these problems. In the meanwhile, our fund raising efforts are still underway to keep this from happening again. See below...

The Friends of the Lost Pines State Parks announce they are donating $45,000.00 ...towards the erosion control at Bastrop State Park. As you can see in this photograph, erosion is a major problem in the burn area. Everytime it rains, we are losing topsoil and the run off of ash is a major problem. Texas Parks and Wildlife are estimating it will run $900,000.00 to stabilize the damaged areas. This is a start. If you can help us, see below for more information about donating to the recovery effort. 100% of donated funds will go to restoring Bastrop State Park.

Our first Volunteer Day, over 50 Volunteers Helping the Houston Toad Habitat

In the photograph above, our first "Volunteer Work Day" brought out over 50 people on a cold and windy December day to spread mulch around the Houston Toad Habitat. The Friends of the Lost Pines State Parks purchased the hard hats and buckets for these projects. We have also purchased a greenhouse for the Park so seedlings and other plants can have a start towards restoring the forest.

Volunteer to Restore Bastrop State Park

Volunteers will be able to participate in at least two projects: spreading mulch around Houston toad ponds and installing straw logs or wattles on hillsides. Both of these projects are important steps in the land’s recovery.

The erosion control workdays will take place on the following Saturdays:  Dec. 10, Jan. 14, Jan. 28 and Feb. 11 from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. Reservations are required by 5 p.m. on the Friday before the workday. Contact Katie Raney at 512-718-0211 or by email at katie.raney@tpwd.state.tx.us.

For all who would like to make a contribution to aid Rangers and their families in their recovery from these fires, you may make and send a contribution to the Texas Parks and Wildlife Foundation, with a notation for "TPWD Employee Relief Fund" at this address:
